1983 - DC Comics Retailers' Poster

  1. This is a fun snapshot to see what was popular at DC at the time. No surprise seeing Teen Titans, Batman and the Legion represented, and I guess Camelot 3000 was popular at the time (I've still never read it). Interesting to see All-Star Squadron, Night Force, Captain Carrot (yeah!) and Swamp Thing on there (that would've still been pre-Moore Swamp Thing, right?).

The most striking omissions are Superman, who I guess was probably not considered very cool around this period, and Vigilante, another relatively new series that I'd expect they'd want to plug aggressively.

    Thanks for the post!

  2. Hey David, good catch on Superman being omitted. Guess that highlighted the need in their minds to reboot the Superman franchise under Byrne.

  3. Uh, it's 1983...Byrne was probably not even a glimmer in anyone's mind. More likely they figured everyone knows Superman and they're trying to portray their diverse line-up and don't need more super heroes represented.
